One of the advantages of choosing Old Hall Caravan Park as a base for your touring caravan or holiday home in Lancashire is our location. Based in Carnforth, Lancashire, we are particularly well placed for enjoying the incredibly beautiful local area. We recently talked about What to See and Do in Silverdale, but this time, let’s take a look at the home of the mint cake, Kendal.
Take in Some Art
Abbot Hall is a fantastic local gallery and museum set in a beautiful Grade I listed Georgian house. You can feel the history of the home as well as the items in their historic collection. The gallery is filled with artwork from a range of artists from the 18th century onwards including work from local 18th century painter, George Romney.
Abbot Hall is open Monday-Saturday from 10.30am – 4pm and tickets cost £9 for annual pass for students, £12 for adults, £6 for children aged 15 and under; kids go free! You can save money by buying a ticket that meets your requirements, check out their prices here.

Enjoy a Drink
Factory Tap is a modern style bar located in Kendal town around an old mill house and has an attraction for beer enthusiasts and it’s pet friendly. They offer a changing selection of beers regularly. They also offer a range of different food stalls that caters most taste buds. and host occasional special events and festivals.
They are open from 4:00pm-9:00pm from Monday-Thursday, 1:00pm-10:00pm on Friday, 3:00pm-10pm on Saturday and 3:00pm-9:00pm on Sunday. Make sure to check out their social medias to find out what’s on.

Sizergh Castle
If you’re in the area, why not visit Sizergh Castle, located just by Kendal. There’s beautiful medieval houses with gardens and an estate that you can explore. Take a walk around the Sizergh's woodland trail or visit the orchards if you fancy a family stroll with breathtaking views. If you want to appreciate the view further, there are a few picnic areas behind the orchards, outside the gardens, where you can either sit on benches or set up a picnic mat for your friends and family to enjoy.
There’s also a café serving a selection of both hot and cold drinks, and a shop selling local products, accessories and gifts.

Levens Hall
Levens Hall is located just around 5 miles from Kendal; a beautiful privately owned house and a grade I listed garden since 1694, home to the world’s oldest topiary gardens. Levens Kitchen is also available for those who wants a grab to eat before or after exploring the area. They offer seasonal menus, made with locally sourced, high-quality produce.

Scout Scar and Cunswick Scar Circular
If you’re more of an active, outdoor person, take a look at this 4.7km circular trial it is considered as an easy route, perfect to do with friends and family even if you’re not a regular walker. It is quite a popular area for hiking, running and bird watching. This trail is open all year around so make sure to check it out if you’re looking for some kind of exploring activity in the Kendal area.
