Most Covid-19 restrictions have now been lifted across the UK, and we can finally get back to doing all the things we love; travelling, hanging out with friends and family, going to live music events – it's all back on the cards! With international travel still posing a risk but local businesses given the green light to fully reopen, many people are choosing to spend the summer in the UK, particularly in popular holiday hotspots like the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Today we're going to look at some ideas for making the most of our favourite places in the UK, and how our caravan park in Lancashire gives you the freedom to enjoy everything the Northwest has to offer.
There's nothing quite as refreshing as that hard-earned pint in the pub after a long walk through the Lake District Fells. Now that pubs can operate without restrictions, there's far less chance of being turned away because they're already full. Here's a few of our favourite Lake District pub walks to get you started:
Buttermere Circuit
A scenic ramble around the serene Buttermere Lake will take you between 2-3 hours. It's a low level walk suitable for all ages, and when you're done, head on into Buttermere village and pay a visit to the Bridge Inn. Dogs are welcome in the Walkers bar (named after the founder of the Inn rather than the ramblers that frequent it).
Patterdale, Silver Point and the White Lion Inn
The 4-mile walk from the hamlet of Patterdale to Silver Point is slightly more demanding than the Buttermere circuit but will reward you with stunning views of Lake Ullswater – some say it's one of the best views in the entire Lake District. On your return to Patterdale, reward yourself with a hearty meal at the historic White Lion country inn.
With live music back on the bill, festivals season is starting to get going – if not a little later than planned. The Lake District has a wide range of boutique music festivals for all tastes – from local talent to chart-topping artists. Not all festival organisers have decided to run events this year, but here are a few gems that are going ahead as planned:
Keswick Mountain Festival Keswick
Mountain Festival combines music with an array of sports and adventure activities for lovers of the great outdoors. The festival village plays host to a lineup of local, national bands and offers a massive schedule of activities that festival-goers can sign up to participate in.
Solfest
Operated by volunteers and free from corporate sponsorship, Solfest is one of Cumbria's largest festivals, attracting well-known acts from various genres across 7 stages and offering a wide variety of arts, crafts, street performers and activities for children.
Lake District Summer Music International Festival
One for classical music lovers, this festival showcases international musical talent across several intimate venues in the southern Lake District. Each event is individually ticketed, so you can dip in and out as much as you please.
The Lake District is infamous for its charming market towns and villages. A visit to any of them won't leave you bored or looking for something to do. Here are a few of our personal favourites:
Bowness-on-Windermere
Lakeland's most popular tourist resort, and for a good reason. Lake Windermere is the prime destination for water sports, sailing and windsurfing. If you're looking for adventure activities, then don't overlook Windermere.
Kirkby Lonsdale
A picturesque market town bordering the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales – Kirkby Lonsdale is packed full of boutique shops, of which 99% are independently owned. The town boasts several high-quality eateries and coffee shops serving fresh food prepared with local ingredients.
Carnforth
Located five miles north of Lancaster and Morecambe, Carnforth is most famous for its train station – which was used as the location for the most iconic scene in Oscar-winning director David Lean's classic film, Brief Encounter. Over 75 years on, the station has been lovingly restored and now serves as an award-winning heritage centre open to visitors.
